Hi everyone,
Congratulations to jericho121 for a tidy win over dscvdchk - nicely played King's Indian where his opponent let him play f5 then f4, g5 and then the breakthrough on the king's side. The win clinched the Division title for us.
[Also, congratulations also to GadsHill, whose Queens Bishops team in the 1400 Division made the playoffs again - defending champions!]
Round 1 is a special two-week round due to the holidays and runs from Dec 15 - Dec 29. You still have to make your initial offers by Thu Dec 17 @ 2200, but you have two weeks of scheduling to work with. You have to have scheduled your match by Tue Dec 22 @ 2200, and your match cannot start later than Tue Dec 29 @2200. There is no adjournment period for the playoffs.
Whom I'll play depends on our opponent (and your availability). PLEASE PLEASE email or message me ASAP if you CANNOT play in Round 1 (Dec 15-29). Assuming everyone can play, I plan to play AVEMARIA, musk6868, and jericho121 regardless of opponent (see below). If we get Minority Attack, then GadsHill will play; if we get Chaotic Equations, then AngryPirate will play.
If playoff scenarios make you go to sleep - ignore the rest of this email :-)
There are two matches remaining in the 1600 Division that has playoff implications, but only one that affects us and that won't be played until Saturday. On 12/12 at 1400 is DanMcClintic (Minority Attack) vs RD1974. That match decides our first round playoff opponent, as well as determines the wild card team. We play the Division Winner of the Gibson Division (regardless of who wins, we are the #3 seed and play the #6 ranked Division winner). BrerRabbit's loss (Quixotes) tonight [where a draw would have clinched a wild card] means the Quixotes also have to wait until Saturday to decide their fate.
Here are the scenarios:
1) DanMcClintic wins: Minority Attack is the Division winner (and our opponent)
Chaotic Equations becomes the wild card team and #8 seed. [Minority Attack has fewer team forfeits]
2) DanMcClintic draws: Chaotic Equations becomes the Division Winner (and our opponent). Minority Attack becomes the wild card team and the #8 seed.
3) DanMcClintic loses: Chaotic Equations becomes the Division Winner (and our opponent). Quixotes LLtK becomes the wild card team and the #8 seed.
Theoretically, we match up better on paper against Chaotic Equations. But we've proven already this season, ratings don't matter.
The other playoff implication match is in about 12 hours at 1300 - AntMantis (The Troubadours) vs Kallistos (Chessmasters). This game determines the Sahara Division winner (#7 seed). In short, Kallistos has to win for the Chessmaster to make it; a win (outright) or draw (tiebreak by dropping Board 1 vs Fishers of Men U1600B) by AntMantis will advance the Troubadours.
Here are the playoff Round 1 matchups:
#1: Pawn to be Wild (5.5MP/18.0GP) vs. #8: Wild card (TBD as above- Chaotic Equations / Minority Attack / Quixotes LLtK)
#2: The Wild Woodpushers (5.0/17.5) vs. #7: Sahara Division winner (see above - Chessmasters / The Troubadours).
#3: STC the Deuce (5.0/16.0) vs. #6: Gibson Division winner (see above - Chaotic Equations / Minority Attack)
#4: Gomer Pawn Stars (4.5/16.5) vs. #5: King, Pawn, and RooK (4.5/15.5)
